Glass Toughener Installation & 2000A Supply Upgrade – Adelaide
Project Overview
TA Electrical delivered the full electrical scope for the installation of a new high-capacity glass toughening line — from concept and machine selection support, through to a complete supply upgrade, installation, commissioning, and ongoing maintenance.
This project required significant power infrastructure, complex civil work, SAPN coordination, and precision electrical integration to support the furnace, quench system, conveyors and control systems that make up the toughener.
The Challenge
This was a full relocation completed inside a live site.
Production never stopped.
Our work had to integrate daily with:
– Riggers
– Mechanical teams
– Concrete contractors
– Engineers
– Site management
What We Delivered
Full SAPN Supply Upgrade – 2000 Amp Transformer
TA Electrical managed every stage of the new supply connection, including the rare SAPN approval to bring two separate SAPN feeds into a single building — a ruling that is almost never granted.
From the transformer to the new main board, we installed:
– 4 × 400 mm² per phase + neutral
– Underground cable route
– Full civil works: cutting bitumen, trenching, conduit installation, backfill, reinstatement
Custom 2000 A Main Switchboard
We supplied and installed a custom-built MSB specifically sized for the toughener’s high continuous load.
Features included:
– 2000 A main incoming
– Dedicated distribution section
– High-capacity outgoing ways
– Thermal management and layout designed for longevity
– Allowance for future expansion
Electrical Design & Full Installation of the Toughener
The toughening line included a loader, furnace and quench (no stacker).
TA Electrical completed:
– Load and diversity calculations
– Cable sizing and pathway design
– Submains and distribution to all major components
– Local and emergency isolation
– Integration with vendor requirements
– Controls, auxiliary plant, extraction, cooling and ancillary equipment
– Installation of protection to meet AS/NZS 3000
Commissioning & Ongoing Support
TA Electrical provided:
– Staged energisation and safety checks
– Load balancing and thermal checks
– Functional testing with the machine vendor
– On-site support during initial production
– Ongoing maintenance, servicing, and breakdown response
Let’s build something that lasts.
