What is the difference between a VFD and a VSD?
The terms are often used interchangeably, but there is a distinction. A Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) controls AC motors by varying the frequency and voltage of the power supply. A Variable Speed Drive (VSD) is a broader term that covers equipment used to control the speed of either AC or DC motors.
Why is my industrial VSD constantly tripping?
Drives trip for a lot of reasons: motor overloads, voltage spikes, harmonic distortion from unshielded cables, or deceleration times set too short causing regenerative power to feed back into the drive. Our technicians use specialist diagnostic software to find the exact cause and fix it properly.
How often do industrial drives require preventative maintenance?
Heavy industrial drives should be inspected annually, thermal imaging and mechanical checks as a minimum. Internally, components like cooling fans and DC bus capacitors wear over time and typically need proactive replacement every 3 to 5 years, depending on the operating environment.
