Heavy Workshop Relocation & Electrical Rebuild – Adelaide
Project Overview
TA Electrical was engaged to relocate an entire heavy mechanical engineering workshop — more than 30 industrial machines — from one site to another, all while the client remained fully operational.
This project combined complex logistics, deep electrical knowledge, and careful staging to ensure every machine was disconnected, moved, and recommissioned safely, efficiently, and in line with current standards.
The Challenge
This was a full relocation completed inside a live site.
Production never stopped.
Our work had to integrate daily with:
– Riggers
– Mechanical teams
– Concrete contractors
– Engineers
– Site management
What We Delivered
Full machine relocation – over 30 units
Including lathes, mills, borers, machining centres, and several machines close to 100 years old. Many had no existing drawings or documentation, requiring reverse-engineering and careful isolation.
Electrical disconnection from multiple boards
Several machines were fed from multiple distribution boards. We traced, labelled, isolated, tested, and made safe every circuit before rigging teams lifted a single piece of equipment.
Foundation modifications & new electrical design
Some machines required the original factory slab to be cut out, removed, and replaced with new reinforced foundations.
We designed and installed new electrical systems around these foundations, including:
– Embedded conduits
– Earthing upgrades
– Load assessments
– New protection and isolation points
Reinstallation, upgrades & compliance
Once relocated, each machine received:
– New cable routes and terminations
– Updated protection to meet AS/NZS 3000
– Emergency stops and isolators
– Cleaned-up wiring compared to the original install
Legacy machines with undocumented wiring were rebuilt into safe, compliant condition without compromising function.
Testing, commissioning & production support
Every machine underwent:
– Insulation testing
– Earth testing
– Rotation checks
– Functional tests
– Supervised start-up during initial production
TA Electrical remained on standby during early operations to support the client as they ramped back up.
The OUtcome
TA Electrical delivered a complete workshop relocation with:
– Zero safety incidents
– Minimal downtime
– Modernised, safer electrical systems
– Cleaner installation and easier future maintenance
– A layout that supports greater efficiency for years to come
This project demonstrates our capability to handle large-scale industrial relocations, legacy machinery, and complex electrical interfaces — all without impacting our client’s operations.
Let’s build something that lasts.
If you’re looking for an electrical partner who values people as much as performance, we’d love to start a conversation.
